Subsidized Taxi Program

The Subsidized Taxi Program is designed to provide low-cost transportation to corporate Des Plaines residents who are 65 years of age or older and disabled residents.

Your card is your identification and is to be shown to the taxi driver when you use the cab.

The program is as follows: To be eligible for the reduced fare you must travel within corporate city limits of Des Plaines only, with the exception of Advocate/Lutheran General Hospital campus. The City will pay half of the metered fare as long as the cab meter does not exceed $5.00. If it does exceed $5.00, the City’s contribution is limited to $2.50.

  • McDonald's #1 Store Museum, 400 N. Lee Street (17 miles northwest of downtown), (847) 297-5022 [3] - Open Memorial Day-Labor Day. This museum is a recreation of the first McDonald's restaurant. The original restaurant was demolished in 1984. You'll know you have seen it when you get to an old fashioned-looking McDonald's restaurant with a sign saying that they sell hamburgers for 15 cents. Free admission.
